Well, It's been a while since i posted anything in here. Recently somebody told me they had heard a rumor (oh boy!) in which I had posted "security issues" concerning the building I work at online.
Which of course isn't true. This isn't my first rodeo, and I've done the research, and I haven't posted anything that I could be (directly) fired for, let alone sent to JAIL, which is what could happen if I was some kind of federal security leak. Believe me, I am not that stupid.
In the sake of accuracy, I should point out that I have removed a single entry - one in which I aggressively mocked one of my managers when I was with the IRS, who then died of cancer. I felt that the entry, while not really in poor taste, was no longer as funny as it was after that. Except for that one entry, I have never removed anything, so governmental investigators: feel free to read the archives for yourself.
Anyway, the silver lining to this whole thing is that I remembered this blog, and decided to do a quick update.
The fact is, the reason this hasn't been as funny or as horrifying as it was before I left the IRS and hooked up with haliburton is that haliburton isn't as screwed up. Oh, its screwed up, just not as bad, and not in ways that are easy to comment on.
For instance: Our managers seem to pride themselves on their complete lack of anything coming close to knowledge of corporate policy. Every time you need an HR question answered, you get a "let me check on that" or "im not sure, we'll have to call and find out" which is stupid, but not really funny stupid. if you catch my drift.
My lead and I are getting along better than I thought we would. Originally I had slotted him right into the "uber redneck" slot and left it at that. I am realizing now that I made an error in doing so. He doesn't really fit into any slot that I can figure out, and maybe that is my problem. I need to stop grouping people in easy to categorize groups. I've since learned that he is very intelligent and that he makes a lot of jokes that go over most of our co-worker's heads. I do a double take whenever that happens, but i'm getting used to it now.
Honestly the whole place is running a lot smoother than it was when it was the IRS. I guess private enterprise gains a point. I'm not saying that its perfect, since they seem to be constantly changing things that don't work, but at least they're changing things that don't work.
