Well, it's getting closer to shut down time. IAP takes over on december 1st.

Or do they?

See, there's some confusion about that. All of us that applied for jobs with IAP were told that orientation will be on november 27th. As far as the IRS is concerned, they take over on the 1st of december. In fact, I will be working for the IRS on nov 27th.

Having been forewarned of this, I specifically asked in my interview what this meant. I was told that the transition is "Supposed to be smooth" so it shouldn't be a problem with the IRS if I go and attend the IAP orientation.

Does the IRS know this? Apparently not, since the managers haven't heard anything about this until we told them.

There is an information bottleneck happening, and im pretty sure it's the new IRS site manager that they brought in to replace the old guy, who was pretty cool.

The whole thing is kind of like a giant puzzle. Nobody knows everything, but a lot of people know specific details that you can put together... assuming they're not pulling them out their ass, which is always a possibility. From what I gather, IAP was supposed to have sent in some people last month to shadow the managers of each department and learn the job. Based on statements overheard, we have conjectured that the new site manager told them this was not going to happen. We think that probably IAP has november 27th written on their contact, and so that is the first time the site manager is actually letting them on the property, since there isn't anything she can do about it at that point. This is all conjecture based on overheard conversations, pieced together by myself and a few others that are interested in the process. The IRS desperately wants IAP to fail (and why wouldn't they?) so sabataging the process is not a complete surprise. If IAP fails for X number of years to meet the budget that they won the bid with, then the IRS can rebid for its own work.

Some of the managers were told to hold off telling us about the IAP job fair until the end of last month. And we're wondering now if the fact that it was actually leaked in the first place (insert innocent whistle here) is the only reason they announced it when they did.

The fact that they originally were supposed to hold the job fair in the building is immaterial, though interesting.

The deal with them not showing up to train with our managers is a little wierd. It seems like a lot of plans are being made that we hear about, which then fall through or are pushed back. This wasn't one of them, but there have been quite a few.

Part of this is also IAP's fault, im sure. When I went in for my interview, it seemed kind of lacking, but I suppose they had to set up temporary headquarters.

At the job fair, the recruiters had been contracted out and had a list of questions to ask. Is this normal? I have no idea really. But the fact that they didn't know anything about anything was sort of irritating.

At the interview, both of the HR people were gone, so I was interviewed by the new site manager. She was nice, but I could tell she had a lot to do and mostly wanted me to go away.

The people who were interviewed earlier in the week were told they had the job, and what pay level they were at (grades 1 and 3 are available) however midway through the week, they realized they had a LOT of people coming in (all of us who are going to be out of a job soon, I would imagine) so the policy changed and they started telling people they were going to go through all the applications and interview notes later and select people to fill the remaining openings.

Which left a lot of really angry people. By the time I went in for my interview, this had been going on for a while, so I wasn't really surprised. But I made it a point to ask the site manager about it (hey, you know, as long as she's interviewing me) and she told me that the recruiters hadn't been told to hire people on the spot, and that she told them to knock it off when she found out. I also got the feeling from some of the things she said that there are currently a lot of semi-qualified people promised jobs that she has since recieved more qualified applications for.

I applied for basic "Clerk" since it pays a little more than my current pay, and im not ambitious since that normally leads to more work.

In any case, there's just a lot of goofy things happening. And since the nightshift detail is now over, im back to getting up at 7:00am, which is maybe the worst thing in the history of bad.
