No updates for a while. Mostly because there isn't much to tell. The layoffs begin in six months, and mostly life continues until then. Im still hearing all kinds of rumors about the new company, but nobody really knows anything. Most of it is just conjecture.

A lot of people are bitter, and I think, though I haven't had any sort of confirmation other than just basic observation, that the workflow has slowed considerably. A lot of the experienced people who were carreer employees have been sent back to wherever irs location they originally came from in order to get them back into the swing of their own jobs. That leaves us without a whole lot of knowledgable people around. We've had enough training now that we can do the basic job, but when anything out of the ordinary crops up, everything sort of grinds to a halt until the manager can be brought in.

Morale is very low. It's disheartening to know that they expect you to work even harder now to catch up so they can turn it over to the company with a clean slate, shortly after laying you off. Its mostly psychological I think. I remind people when they complain to me about it that we're all temps, and this only cuts our expected employment by a few months anyway. I'm kind of looking forward to the chaos that will ensue, myself.

One of the favorite comments lately is that the suits from the company will show up, take one look at the documents scattered around the building and turn around and leave. No one here thinks they know what they're getting into. Its very doubtful that the IRS told them the state of the records when they were bidding, and its even more doubtful the IRS told them that they would be hiring all temps to take care of things leading up to the transition. It'll be a good time.
